Overview
Strongbow holds varying interests in more than 263,000 ha of ground in the
prospective Coronation Diamond District in the West Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut.
The Coronation
area covers the northern portion of the Archean Slave structural Province.
The Slave Province represents a classic terrane for diamond exploration,
and initial diamond exploration in the area started in the early 1990’s.
Prior to 2000, several kimberlite discoveries were made, however none were
considered significantly diamondiferous. Since then, approximately 16 new
kimberlites have been discovered in the area, some of which reportedly contain
significant
numbers of diamonds.
While not as prolific as the Lac de Gras area of the central Slave in terms
of
the number of kimberlites discovered to date, Strongbow considers the Coronation
as a prospective area for diamond exploration due to its relatively under-explored
nature as well as the presence of significantly diamondiferous kimberlites
over a widespread area. The presence of diamondiferous kimberlites in the
region indicates
that (i) the area is or was underlain by diamondiferous mantle material, (ii)
kimberlite magmas have passed through and may have sampled these diamondiferous
regions during their ascent to the Earth’s surface, and (iii) diamonds
have been both transported to surface and preserved during the transport process.
Strongbow’s primary properties in the Coronation district include Blue
Lake, Napaktulik, Bear and Jewel.
