KAT

The Kat Project centres on the Attawapiskat kimberlite field, located approximately
100km west of the hamlet of Attawapiskat on the western shore of James Bay.
De Beers found the Attawapiskat kimberlites in the late 1980's and has recently
concentrated its evaluation efforts on the Victor kimberlite, which, at approximately
18 ha, is the largest kimberlite in the area. De Beers is continuing with
extensive studies investigating the potential to develop Ontario's first
diamond mine.
The
Kat project is a 50/50 joint venture with Superior Diamonds Corp. (formerly
Canabrava Diamond Corp.) covering 5360 ha of mineral claims in and around
the Attawapiskat kimberlite field. Since February 2000, the joint venture
has conducted
extensive exploration of the area, including flying more that 47,000 line
kilometres of fixed wing magnetic surveys and completing over 2200m of diamond
drilling.
This work led to the discovery of the AT-56 kimberlite, approximately 3km
southwest of De Beers’ Victor kimberlite. Initial test work on AT-56 has indicated
that it is diamondiferous, however its small size precludes further work at
present. The development of a mine at the Victor kimberlite may change the
outlook for AT-56 and further work may be considered at that time.
The Kat joint venture maintains an extensive database on the area and holds
a series of claims strategically placed in proximity to De Beers land holdings.
