Strongbow's Ridgeway project consists of over 1,300 acres (18 properties) located between two and five kilometres along strike to the east of Rio Tinto's past producing Ridgeway gold mine, South Carolina. The Ridgeway mine produced approximately 1.5 million ounces of gold during mining in the 1980's and 1990's, and the reclaimed mine site is currently owned by Rio Tinto.
The Ridgeway mine and Strongbow's Ridgeway project properties are located in a similar geological environment to the Halie Brewer gold trend, located approximately 65 kilometres to the northeast and the location of Strongbow's Midway project. Local geology is dominated by a contact between volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Carolina slate belt and these are, in the case of Strongbow's properties, locally overlain by unconsolidated sand of the Coastal Plain cover sequence.
Two of the Ridgeway project properties have seen past exploration work, with historic drill results that include gold assays ranging from background values up to 2.3 g/t over 25.9 m from a mineralized zone estimated to be at least 250 m long (the Lloyd zone). An initial geochemical survey completed by Strongbow has confirmed a prominent 300 m by 350 m geochemical anomaly over the Lloyd zone and also identified a second, 200 m by 300 m anomaly located 600 m to the southwest. This result is important as it also provides confidence in the ability of geochemical surveys to identify gold mineralization in this region. Historic drilling of the Lloyd zone has been restricted to relatively shallow depths (<100m) and additional, deeper drilling is planned to fully evaluate this prospect. This drilling will be conducted in conjunction with planned drilling at the Midway project.
The remainder of Strongbow's properties in the Ridgeway area have not yet been explored and initial geochemical surveys are planned for the early part of 2012.
Strongbow's exploration programs at the Ridgeway project are conducted under the supervision of David Gale, P.Geo.(BC), Vice-President of Exploration for Strongbow and a qualified person under NI 43-101.
